Smoking gap by income has widened over time

In 2003, the number of smokers per 100 in the lowest income level was 1.5 times higher than the number of smokers in the highest income level.
Ten years later, in 2013, the number of smokers per 100 in the lowest income level was two times higher than the number of smokers in the highest income level.
If all Canadians had the same low smoking rates as those in the highest income level, in 2013 there would have been about 1.6 million fewer Canadians who smoked.
